Am I too old for a heart screening?
We recommend heart screenings for young athletes between 14 and 35, but we can perform heart screenings for people 35 and over. However, it is worth noting that causes of sudden cardiac death can be different in people under 35 and over 35.
A heart screening for over 35s is useful to exclude inherited heart conditions.

Do I have to have a heart screening if I am part of a club?
Some professionals do require heart screenings. The European Society of Cardiology and the International Olympic Committee recommend cardiac screening for any young person taking part in competitive sport.
FIFA and UEFA regulations say first squad players at a football club that participates in international competition must have a minimum of one ECG and one echocardiogram in their personal medical records.

What is an athlete's heart?
Your heart changes when you exercise, this is known as an athlete’s heart. Dr. Kenny’s expertise in sport cardiology helps to avoid mislabelling a normal person as having an abnormal heart condition or missing an underlying serious heart condition in someone with a true abnormality.
-
What are the risks of doing a heart screening?
No heart screening can be 100% accurate. There are some heart conditions that the screening cannot detect, particularly in older people.
However, at HeartScan your heart screening will be performed to the highest standards laid down by the British Society of Echocardiography. HeartScan is the only private provider in the UK to be awarded British Society of Echocardiography Departmental Advanced Accreditation.
If the heart screening does identify an underlying heart condition, it can also have implications for your job, life assurance/insurance and mortgage applications.
Most patients find that everything is normal. If we do find a heart abnormality, it means that you can access early treatment for something that otherwise could have gone undetected.
